Cornelie de Jong – Africa Through My Lens

Many years ago I started out photographing people and their stories close to home. Then Africa got under my skin. Its wild spaces, light and rhythm keep pulling me back. For more than a decade I have been waiting for the moments that tell its story. Every photograph is my way of sharing the Africa I know, raw and alive and most times wonderfully unpredictable.

About me

Meet Cornelie de Jong

Once a documentary photographer in The Netherlands, now mostly a wildlife photographer in Africa.

During and after a career in journalism, consultancy, corporate, and leadership coaching, I’ve always loved telling stories with photos and words. My early documentary work, including books, exhibitions and editorial assignments, kept me close to home. I’d shadow people for weeks or months, camera in hand, fascinated by slipping inside their world.

Then Africa happened. About 15 years ago I fell hard for its wild spaces and began telling its stories instead. Wildlife photography turned out to be a whole new game: different light, different skills and definitely more distance for safety on both sides. Yet my approach stayed the same: watch, wait and get as close as my camera and good sense allow.
